Catalyzing Collaboration: Leveraging CiviCRM to Advance Green Chemistry Education

The Green Chemistry Teaching and Learning Community (GCTLC) is a collaborative effort of Beyond Benign and the American Chemical Society (ACS) Green Chemistry Institute bringing educators from around the world together to share tools and provide support in making green chemistry an integral part of chemistry education. GCTLC’s mission is to foster a sense of belonging and support collaboration and resource sharing among members of the scientific community advancing sustainable chemistry principles and practices.
As a new platform with no previous contacts or users, GCTLC began almost two years ago initially using CiviCRM primarily as a tool for capturing user accounts including voluntary information such as connections with schools and institutions of higher education, educator type, areas of expertise, and ongoing projects of work. Through this and other data, GCTLC is growing a community where users can connect with other users of similar interests or needs. The organization has expanded its use of CiviCRM, including leveraging the software’s robust reporting features to help garner support through grants and sponsorships.
