Kitchen Angels: Streamlining Operations with a Seamless CiviCRM Migration

Last updated: 25 May, 2026

Kitchen Angels, a nonprofit organization in Santa Fe, New Mexico, provides free, nutritious meals to homebound individuals living with chronic or terminal illness. With years of donor and volunteer data stored in CiviCRM on a standalone Drupal 7 site, separate from their main website, Kitchen Angels needed a modern, unified solution to keep their mission running smoothly. Partnering with Skvare, the organization migrated its entire system to a single WordPress environment, bringing everything under one roof and improving usability for staff and volunteers.

Challenge

Kitchen Angels relied heavily on CiviCRM for tracking donors, managing volunteers, and handling communications. However, their Drupal 7 installation was nearing it’s end of life and existed completely separate from their main website.

This separation created duplicate work and inconsistent data, since event registrations, donations, and email engagement lived in different systems like Constant Contact. The team needed a reliable way to connect all touchpoints and have their data flow into one central system.

Their goals were clear:

  • Combine the main website and CiviCRM database into one modern, easy to manage platform.
  • Eliminate data duplication and manual imports.
  • Give staff a more intuitive interface for managing content, contacts, and communications.

Solution

Skvare migrated Kitchen Angels’ existing CiviCRM database to a new WordPress environment, ensuring that all donor, volunteer, and event data were preserved and connected directly to the new site.

The unified setup leverages CiviCRM’s native WordPress integration, allowing Kitchen Angels to:

  • Manage donations, events, volunteers, and mailings within the same system.
  • Use CiviContribute, CiviEvent, and CiviMail to track engagement automatically in CiviCRM.
  • Replace external tools like Constant Contact with built in CiviMail statistics for clear, complete reporting.
  • Update web content easily through WordPress without technical help.

This integration created a single source of truth for all constituent data, giving Kitchen Angels a complete picture of every interaction, from donations to volunteer shifts to email opens, all in CiviCRM.

Impact

With CiviCRM running on WordPress, Kitchen Angels gained a modern, stable foundation for managing its operations. The transition improved security, simplified maintenance, and gave staff one easy place to manage everything.

Now, donor activity, event participation, and mailing results are tracked automatically inside CiviCRM, giving Kitchen Angels accurate, real-time insights into supporter engagement. The organization continues to rely on CiviCRM as the backbone of its donor, events, volunteer, and communications management, helping it stay focused on delivering meals, compassion, and connection to those in need.
