Getting our Refugee Walk data into CiviCRM
Vluchtelingen Werk Vlaanderen (Refugee Work Flanders) strives towards an inclusive society respecting each individual’s rights, especially those of refugees. We take initiatives to create a place where everyone feels at home.
One of our recurring events is the Refugee Walk where thousands of individuals, alone or in teams, walk 20 or 40 km to raise money for our work. In 2024 a record 3,400 people joined in raising 760,000 euros. The 2025 Refugee Walk is in september around Gent.
All participants, teams and donations register on our Refugee Walk website which is on Kentaa (now acquired by iRaiser) platform. At Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen we use CiviCRM to record all our events, petitions, donations, volunteers and contacts.
Together with CiviCooP we developed a CiviCRM connector extension which collects the data from our Refugee Walk website and automatically creates contacts, donations, participations and lunch orders where required. This saves us weeks of work and allows us to be open for registration for a much longer timespan!
